As heat networks continue to evolve, achieving long-term performance depends on more than efficient heat generation. The design and integration of the Heat Interface Unit (HIU) can have a major influence on return temperatures, commissioning and overall network efficiency.

To help consultants, specifiers and engineers understand these challenges, Altecnic has launched a new CIBSE-approved CPD, Designing the HIU Interface for Heat Network Performance, available free through the Altecnic Academy.

Using the Springfield Village development in Southwest London as a real-world case study, the CPD explores how HIU design decisions can influence the performance of an entire district heat network.

Serving more than 1,200 homes alongside healthcare facilities, supported living accommodation and refurbished Grade II listed buildings, Springfield Village demonstrates the importance of selecting the right HIU approach for different building types and system requirements.

The session covers HIU performance at the interface, changing industry expectations, design challenges, commissioning and the role of performance data. It also explores how SATK32 Indirect and SATK22 Direct HIUs were used across the development, alongside MODBUS connectivity and technical support.
