Porotherm, Wienerberger’s clay block walling system, has been specified for use on Bristol City Council’s latest New Build Housing Programme, seeing 23 sustainable properties delivered to the area.

The £3.5 million project, which will see approximately 2,500m² of Poroton blocks incorporated into the Porotherm system at the site, will involve the development of the second Passivhaus project that the architect - Gale & Snowden - has specified Wienerberger products on, demonstrating the blocks’ sustainable credentials.

Forming part of Bristol Local Authority’s ambitious five-year housing strategy, the new housing development is the first of many to be progressed to address the need for sustainable property across the city.

The specification for a Porotherm system comes as a result of the product being utilised across a number of other successful and pioneering developments including 10 new homes built in Alpington, Norfolk, along with a McCarthy and Stone development of 32 homes in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire.

Paul Miller, Technical Manager for Porotherm at Wienerberger, commented: “It’s great to see that we’ve had our products specified for yet another Passivhaus project.

"The system has been selected for the project due to its numerous benefits; which include faster laying, a strong hold, thermal and acoustic efficiency, along with it being the only monolithic masonry system currently on the market. In short, it’s ideal for this type of housing development.

"We’re very excited to see the homes taking shape over the course of the next year, and look forward to the project’s completion date next summer.”
