The Green Housing Forum has released a whitepaper the key outcomes of the latest event, which took place at Homes 2016.

The largest forum to date, attendees journeyed from across the country to listen to seminars from the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the Energy Saving Trust and several housing associations.

Sponsored by Daikin UK the collaborative forum aims to tackle fuel poverty and increase sustainable housing stock for social housing providers.

Launched in 2014 and sponsored by Daikin UK, the Green Housing Forum allows professionals from government, housing associations, local and energy technology companies to collaborate and discuss policy, innovation and the challenges that need to be overcome to combat fuel poverty. The largest forum to date so far took place at the Homes event in London Olympia in November.

Discussing the potential solutions to limiting the impact of fuel poverty, renewable heating technologies and in particular air water heat pumps were highlighted as of paramount importance. the event of the latest Forum, the whitepaper incorporates the pertinent points from each speaker’s presentation and outlines the barriers and potential solutions to tackling fuel poverty for those within the sector unable to attend the event.

The launch of the latest Green Housing Forum coincided with a separate event hosted by the Policy Exchange “The Heat Summit: How Can We Decarbonise Heating?” where Baroness Neville-Rolfe’s keynote speech outlined the energy saving benefits of heat pump technology. She explained their potential to reduce fuel bills and said, “Heat pumps can improve people’s quality of life. Compared with an oil boiler they are better for air quality and are more convenient with no need for fuel deliveries. Homes and businesses not on the gas grid have the most potential to save on fuel bills and to decrease carbon emissions by switching to low carbon heating technologies.”

Announcing improvements to the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive, Baroness Neville-Rolfe is encouraging more households and businesses to incorporate heat pump technology. She said, “It is important that we begin to do this so that we don’t miss the opportunity to meet our 2050 goals in the most way.”

Nancy Jonsson, Director of Commercial Heating and Renewables at Daikin UK: said, “As highlighted at both The Green Housing Forum and as announced at the launch of the welcomed improvements to the domestic RHI, heat pump technology is essential to the impact of fuel poverty and future proof the UK’s heating network.

“Both the Government and the Green Housing Forum unanimously agree that we must take action to reduce costs and carbon emissions when tackling fuel poverty and that renewable heat pump technology will play a large role in that future.

“The method in which homes are heated will change significantly by 2050 and heat pump technology is pertinent to ensuring that the UK’s housing stock is sustainable and therefore for residents to heat.”

The Green Housing Forum is the leading event for social housing professionals that tackle reducing fuel poverty and providing sustainable housing. The event allows for collaborative discussion across the supply chain, including local authorities, heads of housing associations and energy technology companies surrounding the complex challenges that lie ahead in tackling fuel poverty and carbon emissions.
