MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME provided the high-performance, water-resistant cladding to ensure a stunning and exclusive set of beach huts retain an attractive exterior despite the climactic rigours of a seaside location.
The beach huts, built by Ecologic Developments, are situated in Mudeford, a quaint former fishing village in Christchurch.

Commissioned by private clients to rebuild their summer retreats, Ecologic Developments designed, manufactured and installed the units. Due to Mudeford’s coastal location, moisture, salt and exposed wind areas are an issue. Therefore, the beach huts required a durable, hardwearing cladding to withstand the worst of the winter elements.
Combining excellent weather resistance, a simple installation and outstanding long-term performance, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME proved the ideal protective, decorative all-weather solution for the beach huts’ exterior. A total of 342 planks were used for the cladding. These were bespoke in shiplap and feather edge profile produced and finished by architectural mouldings company, SAM Mouldings.
The finished beach huts, which include verandas, kitchens, living rooms and upstairs sleeping areas, were manufactured offsite and once finished, delivered to the seaside location via a low loader and a boat before being lowered into position by crane.
Peter Samson, Director at Ecological Developments, commented: “Having used MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME over the years, we knew that the product would fit perfectly into our offering. The longevity and stability of the product are such strong features, along with the fact that it machines so nicely. It means we now recommend it for all our high exposure area projects. SAM, with their Triamx range helped to deliver a consistent finish to these high quality buildings.”

Due to the proprietary acetylation treatment process used to treat the wood elements, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME has a naturally altered unique chemical structure. This process greatly reduces the ability of the panels to absorb water – creating a stable and extremely durable product with a 50-year guarantee, backed by independent British Board of Agrément (BBA) assessment.
With enhanced natural resistance to the effects of water absorption, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME also ensures there is less need for costly maintenance works and the surface remains both attractive and functional for even longer periods of time.
Due to the panels’ easy application, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME ensured the beach huts were built to the highest specification and delivered in just six months. With the first ready for occupation in November 2016 and the rest for the summer season, the units will make for an attractive addition to Mudeford’s seaside landscape. The use of MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME will ensure the huts remain a seaside feature for all seasons, for many years to come.
