Royal Derby Hospital have recently opened a new Healing Garden to allow staff, friends and families to plant bulbs and have a place of quiet reflection in memory of loved ones.
The garden, which is located outside the Coronary Care Unit, includes a series of flower beds and paving stones complete with beautiful wicker sculptures. To ensure the garden is always in bloom the special planting ceremonies will occur three times per year starting with the inaugural ceremony, which took place at the opening on Wednesday 15th May 2019.
Glen Robinson, Operations Manager at SPA Landscaping, who helped to design and create this new garden said at the opening: “We have all lost loved ones in our lives and this Healing Garden is a quiet space which allows us to remember those dear to us and honour the staff that took such great care. You can see how much something like this means to the people as well with everyone that has turned up to the opening and contributed throughout the progress. It will be a special moment when the newly planted bulbs bloom this Summer.”
The next public planting will be in September with the garden remaining open year-round for quiet reflection.
