A major refurbishment project, for which Sika supplied the quality concrete repair solution, is the recipient of a prized industry award.
The company, in conjunction with joint nominees Concrete Repair Limited, was announced as the Concrete Repair Association’s Project of the Year award winner at a ceremony held earlier this month.
The award related to a £15 million repairs programme carried out at Howdon wastewater treatment plant in Wallsend, north Tyneside. More than 1 million homes rely on the site for sanitary provision; therefore a proven, reliable concrete repair solution was required for a critical upgrade of the plant’s infrastructure in 2018. This was provided by Sika® MonoTop® 4400MIC, an innovative dry-spray solution which offers superior resistance to biogenic corrosion – a process capable of destroying up to 25mm of concrete per year.

Sika. and Concrete Repair Limited’s collaboration on the Howdon wastewater refurbishment, is also among shortlisted entrants at this year’s Concrete Society Awards – the UK construction industry’s longest-running awards. The winners will be announced at a ceremony being held at the Lancaster Hotel, London on Wednesday, November 20th. The event is expected to attract more than 400 industry professionals and Strictly Come Dancing star Anton du Beke will also be in attendance as the evening’s celebrity host.
