Celebrating 20 years of the innovative Helibeam System

For 20 years the innovative Helibeam System has been at the heart of Helifix’s fully concealed, non-disruptive masonry repair strategies.

Developed to provide a rapid, cost-effective means of restoring structural integrity to failed masonry without expensive and disruptive taking down and rebuilding, it also prompted the company to establish the nationwide network of Helifix trained Approved Installers which maintains superior standards of workmanship.

The Helibeam System provides a sympathetic structural solution where masonry has lost its load bearing capabilities due to ground movement, component failure, weathering or increased loads and stresses. The system involves bonding pairs of stainless steel HeliBars, normally with HeliBond cementitious grout, into channeled-out mortar beds or cut slots at predetermined levels. These provide horizontal bed-joint reinforcement by tying the masonry together and creating deep masonry beams which support and distribute the structural loads.

Other Helifix ties and fixings provide appropriate lateral and vertical restraint to complete the system, which has been proven in all types of masonry structures.

Extremely strong, yet flexible enough to accommodate natural building movement, the versatile Helibeam System introduces no new stresses and its ability to create deep structural beams using the existing masonry makes it ideal for lintel creation to simplify window replacements, spanning areas of subsidence to greatly reduce the need for mass underpinning, reinstating bridge arches or tunnels, as well as providing reinforcement for new buildings. It is particularly suitable for historic and listed properties as it restores structural integrity while retaining the original building aesthetics.

As with all Helifix products, technical support is available and includes a detailed datasheet giving applications, installation procedures and technical specifications.
