Supporting the accurate delivery of your passive fire safety specifications

Passive fire protection is a safety critical element of the building envelope, requiring careful design and specification to ensure the measures will adequately prevent the spread of fire across the external wall system if needed. However, with the Building Safety Act increasing the need for project partners to not only ensure due diligence for their role within the project but consider how they can holistically support the delivery of a safe building, specification considerations don’t stop at ensuring solutions are appropriately tested and certified.

This is especially important when it comes to passive fire protection within the external envelope of buildings. The performance of cavity barriers and firestops is reliant on them being installed in line with their manufacturer recommendations as this is how they will have been tested. Any unapproved installations that differ from the approved project details may not only result in Gateway 3 rejections, delays and costly remedial works but, more importantly, the potential risk of compromising compartmentation, allowing fire and smoke to spread beyond the assumptions of the building’s fire strategy.

To help project teams create and maintain these records for its standard passive fire protection and acoustic systems, Siderise has launched its new Inspection App. This new user-focused tool gives site teams a practical way to capture installation evidence, monitor workmanship standards and create a robust audit trail throughout construction.

Designed for installers of Siderise's standard passive fire protection and acoustic systems, the app enables users to document installations in real time using their mobile devices. Photographs and key project information can be uploaded directly through the app and converted into structured reports. These reports can then be submitted to Siderise's technical team for remote review, providing confirmation that installations align with the manufacturer's recommendations. This remote approach not only reduces delays associated with arranging site inspections but also allows potential issues to be identified quickly and rectified before they are repeated across multiple floors or areas.

Importantly, the reports generated through the app can be incorporated into project quality records and the Golden Thread of information. This gives construction managers, particularly those acting as Principal Contractor, a valuable source of evidence when compiling Gateway 3 submissions. Because installation records are gathered continuously during construction, rather than retrospectively at project completion, the risk of documentation gaps delaying approval or handover is significantly reduced.

Freely available for download via Google Play and Apple App Stores, The Siderise Inspection App is part of the unparalleledtechnical support ‘wrapper’ that surrounds the manufacturers’ highly tested product ranges, including technical design advice, project specific testing, CPD and product training and more. This holistic support helps customers demonstrate competence and deliver high-quality outcomes at every project stage and Gateway.
