Galliford Try’s Building North West business unit has started work on the creation of a new Net Zero Carbon in Operation building to house St Ann’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Stretford, Manchester, as part of the School Rebuilding Programme.
The scheme will see the creation of a new 2,400sqm, two-storey school, which will include a nursey, reception area, and classrooms for infants and junior school pupils.
In addition, staff areas, a kitchen, a multi-function hall, as well as hard and soft play areas will be included in the project.
The new school will be fossil-fuel free, instead utilising air source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels. Additional benefits have been gained by the use of offsite precast concrete panels, reducing onsite trades and resulting in increased durability of the building.
The old school buildings will be demolished, with new playing fields constructed in their place, allowing for larger scale team sports to be possible.
Darren Parker, Managing Director for Building North West, commented: “This exciting new project will see a much needed upgrade to the old school, with more space being added for students to learn and play.
“We are proud to continue to create the best educational environments for our clients, while ensuring that the buildings themselves are fit for the future, helping to address the Net Zero challenge.”
