Construction leaders have set out key steps that businesses can take to save water as the sector faces potential shortages due to continuing hot weather.
Last month saw new records set for temperatures across the UK, with the heat forecast to carry on into July.
Such conditions make it increasingly important that firms do what they can to save water wherever possible.
To help with this, the Green Construction Board has prepared handy advice on behalf of the Construction Leadership Council that can be used by firms of all sizes to cut their water use.
The advice, which has been developed by experts from across the sector, includes suggestions such as appointing site water champions, raising awareness through a dedicated toolbox talk, as well as monitoring, measuring and reporting on water usage. It also shows how, by reducing water usage, sites can also save on costs.
Green Construction Board chair David Pinder said: “The UK has less available water per person than many other European countries meaning it is an increasingly scarce for sites. We have a moral responsibility to save water, and doing so also make financial sense for firms.
“We hope that our new guidance will provide easily accessible advice for any business as to how they can cut their water use.”
The tips are aligned with the UK Government's Plan for Water, which was published in April. The Plan is intended to ensure that people, businesses and nature have a sustainable supply of the water that they use, improving resilience and managing water demand.
