Following a recent governance review, and with agreement to bye-law changes approved by the Privy Council, CIOB is seeking to appoint a Chair of Trustees to work alongside the CEO and President.
“The approval by Privy Council of these changes to the Institute’s Byelaws is the culmination of CIOB’s 2020 member-led review into its governance arrangements,” said Chris Soffe FCIOB, CIOB Past President and Chair of CIOB’s Governance Review Working Group
“This came into focus as part of the current Corporate Plan, with the goal of improving and strengthening the governance and decision-making processes. I’m very pleased we’ve had so much support from members to deliver an even stronger foundation of good governance, and I’d like to praise the dedication and support of the member-led Working Group, and all the staff and members who provided their input and feedback along the way.”
Caroline Gumble, CIOB’s CEO, said that after listening to the views of CIOB members and staff, it was evident to me that itt needed to deliver a consultative governance review.
“It was an important opportunity for us to future-proof our governance processes to be a more “agile” and contemporary global organisation,” she continued. “The member-led Working Group have done a fantastic job. I’m grateful to them for all their efforts and to all the members who participated in the consultations and shared their feedback. The changes will keep the Institute on a sound footing and enable us to maintain a focus on our public interest remit and our mission to set standards for construction industry professionals.”
This new post, lasting for a 2 to 3-year term, will provide continuity and leadership to the Board of Trustees, with a focus on agreeing priorities and overseeing governance processes and structures.
“The introduction of the new Chair position is a positive change for the Institute, one benefit of which will be to enable future Presidents to take on a more ambassadorial role,” said Mike Foy OBE FCIOB, CIOB President and Chair of CIOB’s Working Group for recruitment of the Chair
“The Chair will be involved more directly with the Trustees and the governance of the Institute, with support from the President as one of the Trustees. I welcome the change and I know that it will allow both the Chair and President to take a more focussed approach and allow the President to spend more time engaging with members and industry leaders.”
Applications for the Chair role will be open to chartered members (those who hold MCIOB or FCIOB post-nominal status) from 7 February 2022. Shortlisting and interviews will take place in March, with the commencement of the role from the close of the AGM in June 2022.
