Solarlux has achieved certification for 50,000 operation cycles for its SL60e, SL80 and SL81 aluminium bi-folding door systems.
Fifty thousand operation cycles is the equivalent of opening and closing a bi-folding door twice a day, every day for 60 years.
The certification came after independent tests were performed by Wintech Engineering Limited of Telford. The standards specified were BS 6375 Part 2:2009, BS EN 12046-2:2000 (Class 1 classification) and BS EN 1191:2000 (Class 4 classification). The tests were meticulously carried out over a period spanning May 7-22 of this year.
The bi-folding door systems were tested across a range of functions including: operational strength, performance, resistance to operational forces, resistance to repeated opening and closing and mechanical durability.

This comes after the company – known for its bi-folding door systems, Wintergardens, sliding systems and a huge range of high-quality glazing solutions – was awarded a gold standard by Secure by Design for its SL60e bi-folding door system. Solarlux tested up to 32 configurations, which is an incredible standard to adhere to against the industry benchmark of testing significantly less than this.
