Trespa are both pleased and proud to have helped DIY SOS with their biggest project to date – refurbishing the Norris Green Youth Centre in Liverpool for Children In Need. As usual with DIY SOS, Nick Knowles and his team took on the refurbishment of a dilapidated and unloved building with the hope of transforming it in only 9 days. The centre was originally an old boys club built over 50 years ago and resembles two aircraft hangers side by side.
It offers various activities for the local community giving them the chance to learn life changing skills, grow in confidence and has made a real difference to the lives of the young people in the surrounding area. Guiding them away from anti-social behaviour and crime, the centre is a lifeline is attended by some 50 children and young people every night of the week.
A whole host of trades – carpenters, builders, plasterers, painters & decorators and many others have given their time, products and services in order to make it happen. Trespa have supplied around 350m2 of their Meteon panels in a range of colours to completely transform the entrance of the building. Together with help from distributors FGF who cut and delivered the panels to site, system supplier Downer Cladding, installers SR Cladding, Highline Cladding and Sitastruct the whole of the front of the building is now bright and welcoming – a far cry from what it used to be. David Laing – Country Manager for Trespa UK spoke of their involvement with the project - “Trespa Meteon cladding panels are used as both functional products and also to provide aesthetic improvements .
Their use on buildings within the public, housing and educational sectors allow the opportunity for creative design. Our participation in this project will hopefully create an environment where colour and design will provide stimulating surroundings for the users and the local community.” Extensively used in vertical applications like facade cladding, balcony panelling and a wide range of other exterior applications, weather resistant Trespa Meteon panels are vandal resitant: tough and easy to keep clean, retaining their good looks for many years.
Trespa Meteon panels are based on thermosetting resins, homogeneously reinforced with up to 70% wood based fibres and manufactured under high pressure and at high temperatures. The panels have an integrated decorative surface using the proprietary EBC technology. This results in a panel which is extremely weather resistant and exceptionally durable, with dimensional stability and workability similar to hardwood. The smooth, pore-free surface resists the accumulation of dirt and is easy to clean which will help to create low-maintenance exterior applications. The Trespa Meteon range of architectural panels combines aesthetics with exceptional design possibilities together with sustainable superior technical performance.
