Lanes no dig drainage technology keeps urban traffic flowing

Trenchless drain rehabilitation technology from Lanes Group is keeping the traffic flowing along vital commuter routes in a busy Berkshire town while the road system is being improved.

Two major no dig drain reline projects have been completed in Bracknell as part of a programme of works to ensure highway drainage systems are fit for purpose.

The Lanes Group team, based at Eastleigh in Hampshire, has been working closely with leading highway services provider Ringway, which manages the road network on behalf of Bracknell Forest Council.

Among projects completed have been the relining of two 900mm diameter sections of highway culvert. Ultraviolet (UV) lining technology has been used to rehabilitate a total of 60m of pipe.

Ringway Contracts Manager Linda Gray said: "Lanes has been making an important contribution to our highways maintenance and improvement programme.

"The no dig pipe rehabilitation techniques they can deploy have proved very useful in allowing us to minimise disruption along very busy roads while work is underway. Without it, we would have been facing major traffic problems."

Both UV pipe relining projects were carried out on Nine Mile Ride, a road that forms a southern bypass for Bracknell, and is particularly important as a commuter route around the town.

Lanes Group has been one of the pioneers in the UK of UV lining technology, because of its major benefits, which include speed of deployment, enhanced safety and sustainability.

UV light is used to cure a resin-impregnated liner inside a damaged drain. The technique is faster than hot cure drain lining, takes up less space to deploy along the highway and does not generate any contaminated waste water.

Six other projects have been completed in the last 12 months, on an estimated 26km of pipe. Work has included CCTV surveying, jet vac de-silting and tree root clearance.

Lanes Group is the UK's larges independent supplier of wastewater, utility and underground pipeline services in the UK, operating 23 depots and services hubs.

Keith Oldbury, Area Development Manager for Lanes, based at the Eastleigh depot, said: "We are very pleased to be working with Ringway on these important maintenance projects.

"Our aim is always to be able to deliver the best drainage technologies for achieving excellent results more quickly, more safely and with less disruption to clients and the wider public."
