Charnwood Borough Council has agreed a contract worth around £1 million with Jewson to supply building materials to the Council’s Housing Services department.
The contract, initially for two years, is the culmination of a tender process using the Procurement For Housing Framework which started in March 2012.
The new arrangement allows the Property and Investment team, which delivers reactive repairs and planned maintenance to council properties, to consolidate all materials purchasing through a single supplier resulting in significant cost and efficiency savings.
As part of the partnership, council tenants will be entitled to a discount card which can be used at Jewson Loughborough to make savings on flooring, decorating and much more.
A dedicated counter and storage areas have been established at the Loughborough branch of Jewson on Bakewell Rd for the repairs operatives. The branch will ensure that it always has in stock the core products most used by the Housing Services Team.
The branch also offers a dedicated delivery vehicle and van stocking service to enable morejobs to be completed in a single visit without the need for repair operatives to return for specific parts or materials.
Councillor Jane Hunt, Lead Member for Housing said: “This is a great example of excellent partnership working which will benefit our customers. Not only will tenantsreceive discounts from Jewson but our repairs service will be much more efficient enabling us to deliver the best possible service.”
Andy Brown, Repairs and Maintenance Manager for the Housing Services department is delighted with the new partnership: “For both financial and efficiency reasons it made sense to outsource and consolidate our purchasing of building materials. Jewson’s flexibility, its ability to adapt to our requirements, as well as its innovative approach, is what for us makes it stand out from the rest. This partnership will make our repairs and maintenance service more efficient which means a better service for our customers.”
John Heathfield, Sales Manager from Jewson, commented: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council to help deliver a range of efficiency and cost savings for them. We have established an excellent working relationship with Charnwood - the branch team at Loughborough and I look forward to meeting and exceeding expectations throughout the life of the contract”.
