A contemporary housing development in Street has been honoured with a prestigious national design award.
Houndwood, which is currently under construction by local homebuilder Barratt Homes Bristol, received a Bronze Award in the best exterior design category.
The £29 million scheme – a redevelopment of the former Clarks Shoes depot – comprises 400 homes from one bedroom apartments to four bed houses. All feature high levels of insulation, high efficiency gas condensing boilers, solar flat plate collectors, local materials and sustainably sourced timber.
David Bond, Barratt Homes Bristol technical director commented: “We are delighted that Houndwood has been honoured in these prestigious national awards which recognise our commitment to outstanding design.’’
Outstanding design can be seen throughout the development including the materials used, such as local blue Lias stone. There is also a strong emphasis on shared spaces, to create a safer pedestrian and cycle-friendly environment.
Houndwood was honoured at the What House? Awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London where Barratt was also named Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year.
