The Greenbuild Awards 2013 is the only awards in the UK which celebrates successful sustainable buildings in use, focusing on actual measured performance rather than design intent or performance specifications.
Judged by a panel of distinguished industry leaders including Kerry Mashford, chief executive of National Energy Foundation, winning a Greenbuild Award really does raise the bar for the industry, reducing the environmental impact of our buildings.
The 2013 awards will be held on the 8th May at the Grade II* listed Midland Hotel in Manchester.
The awards takes place alongside the Greenbuild Expo held at Manchester Central on the May 8 and 9. Finalists of next year’s awards will be showcased at the awards gallery, which is one of many features at Greenbuild Expo 2013.
The Greenbuild Awards night is an ideal place to network with other built environment professionals and industry colleagues who are at the forefront of sustainability in construction and refurbishment. Last year’s event, hosted by The One Show’s Lucy Siegle, was a great success.
The Greenbuild Awards 2013 will recognise sustainable building performance in the following categories:
• Domestic newbuild
• Domestic refurb
• Healthcare newbuild
• Healthcare refurb
• Workplace newbuild
• Workplace refurb
• Leisure newbuild
• Leisure refurb
• Education newbuild
• Education refurb
• Retail newbuild
• Retail refurb
In addition, it will also be celebrating achievement for:
• Breakthrough award (for any person/project that has raised the bar and done something different to achieve a low-energy and sustainable building)

• Behavioural change award (for any project that can demonstrate the impact behavioural change has had on its performance)

• New retrofit product award (this is in association with Salford University, to recognise product innovations for retrofit solutions)
Kerry Mashford, chief executive of National Energy Foundation, said: “Improving the in-use energy performance of buildings is critical to decreasing the UK’s overall CO2 emissions, managing energy costs and reducing fuel poverty. Whilst there is a growing body of evidence of the factors that contribute to the energy performance of buildings, there is still a lack of detail on how and why design and in-use performance differs – and hence how to address this gap.
“The Greenbuild Awards are important because they showcase buildings that are performing well and provide guidance and inspiration for those designing, delivering and operating buildings.”
Entries for the awards will be accepted from now until January 11 2013.
