Living Wall and Green Roof specialist, ANS Global, has recently brought nature back to the built environment with a new 147m² Living Wall at the biggest M&S store in the West Midlands.
The Longbridge store is part of a retail development at the site which was previously the MG Rover car factory. ANS Global’s Living Wall installation has added greenery to the area and boosted the environmental credentials, as well as fitting with the aspirations of the M&S eco policy Plan A.
ANS Global was chosen by M&S following its compatibility and success on previous Living Wall features for other M&S stores, including Newcastle’s Northumberland Street store.
The Living Wall features 20 indigenous plant species to encourage biodiversity. Scott Anderson, Director of ANS Global, explains: “The colour palette is in-keeping with M&S’s corporate style using many different shades of green and utilising evergreen plants which stay active all year round, not dying off for winter.”
ANS Global’s Living Walls are irrigated by rainwater which is captured on the roof by a rainwater harvesting system, and controlled from the team’s offices in West Sussex. The rainwater is stored onsite until it is needed, and it is also utilised inside the building as toilet water.
