Anti-slip decking fits seamlessly into neighbourhood scheme

JB Antislip Plus decking from Marley is helping to keep the residents of a new neighbourhood scheme in Nottingham safe.

The new development in Lenton, Nottingham is a £14 million scheme contracted by Keepmoat that aims to create a new neighbourhood with a community feel. It forms part of the Building a Better Nottingham initiative involving lead partners, Nottingham City Homes and Nottingham City Council.

The development aims to regenerate key areas of the city and has seen the demolition of five high-rise tower blocks to make way for new, affordable general-needs homes, bungalows, independent living accommodation and retail provision. The project has engaged with local groups to create sustainable council homes and develop the city’s housing stock.

More than 7,000 metres of JB Antislip Plus decking were used in public areas and walkways to enhance the natural environment, while ensuring residents can move around safely due to its anti-slip properties.

Andy Adlington, Project Manager at Keepmoat said the company relied on Jewson to provide a range of samples to meet both the specification and the budget. “Jewson is a supply chain partner of Keepmoat, and it made a number of recommendations in relation to the decking, but there was only one product that we were going to install – and that was JB Antislip Plus decking.”

The timber decking boards are specifically designed to provide a durable and effective external anti-slip surface to minimise any risk of slipping – even in adverse weather conditions.

JB Antislip Plus uses a unique formula of grey resin-based aggregate inserts, which are injected into the deck board grooves. If smooth boards are required, grooves are specially machined into the boards to receive the inserts. It is treated to either Use Class 3 (MicroPro) or Use Class 4 (Naturewood) to suit the project requirements.

Charlotte Hughes, product manager at Marley, adds: “JB Antislip Plus is an ideal decking solution for a project of this nature where people need to be kept safe walking from A to B, yet a certain aesthetic is required to blend seamlessly with a local environment. The anti-slip properties of the decking provide reassurance for residents and property developers alike.”

Decking can also be fire retardant treated if required, and JB Antislip Plus can be supplied in both smooth and castellated profiles. For all applications, Marley recommends a smooth profile; however, the castellated profile is available when a traditional timber deck aesthetic is required.
