University signs agreement with UK construction giant

Nottingham Trent University and VINCI Construction UK Ltd today signed an agreement to explore opportunities to develop a long-term collaborative relationship.

Professor Neil Gorman, Vice-Chancellor of the university, and John Stanion, Chairman and Chief Executive of VINCI PLC, signed the agreement after a tour of the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment at the university’s City site.

It comes after several years of the two organisations working together on the redevelopment of some of the university’s estates, including the new Students’ Union building in Nottingham city centre and the new halls of residence at the Clifton campus.

Under the agreement - a memorandum of understanding – the two parties will explore graduate opportunities, student placements, staff development and training, staff shadowing, guest lectures and more.

Professor Gorman said: “This agreement is the beginning of what we hope will become a thriving long-term relationship which will be of significant benefit to both parties.

“We’re very keen to find ways to add real value to our students’ experience and to enhance their career prospects, and we’re sure there is a great potential to do this with VINCI.

“Not only that, but we’re certain that the expertise of our academic staff could be of real value to VINCI and may enhance the already impressive skills and knowledge of their employees.”

Mr Stanion said: “At VINCI Construction UK we are proud of the career and personal development opportunities we offer our own people and those in the communities in which we work.

“This agreement is an outward sign of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together. I am delighted to be part of it.”
