Leadbitter, a subsidiary of Bouygues UK, has completed a £1.8 million design and build contract to construct 15 homes for the Taff Housing Association at Albert Walk, Cardiff.
The project was carried out under the successful Cardiff Partnering Scheme, for which Leadbitter was appointed sole developer and contractor by Cardiff City Council in July 2002.
The 15 new homes have been built for affordable rent using traditional brick and block methods. They are located on a busy urban site in the Canton district, close to a main road of shops and businesses and Taff Housing Association’s offices.
Rob Bradley, Managing Director of Bouygues UK’s Western Division, said: “Community engagement was central to this much-need housing project, and we are delighted to be handing over these new homes to Taff Housing Association and the people of Canton.”
Leadbitter provided a targeted training and recruitment programme for a number of trainees and apprentices, with several going on to full time employment with members of its supply chain. The company also worked with a local primary school and contributed to the Taff allotment action day challenge, providing staff and materials to improve local allotments.
The Cardiff Partnering Framework comes to an end with this scheme, which is one of more than 28 projects completed under the initiative. The framework has delivered over £80 million of mixed-tenure, brownfield developments for Cardiff City Council and its seven registered social landlords.
