Leading heating and hot water appliance manufacturer, Worcester, Bosch Group, has urged heating engineers to act now in ensuring their Electronic Combustion Gas Analysers (ECGA) are correctly calibrated.
The call to action comes ahead of next April’s deadline for the installers to complete their CPA1 assessment in order to remain on the Gas Safe Register. The assessment has been introduced to ensure gas operatives demonstrate competence in using an ECGA after the installation or servicing of a gas-fired boiler or space heater.
The use of an ECGA is key to ensuring levels of carbon monoxide (CO), oxygen (O2) and the carbon monoxide-carbon dioxide ratio (CO/ CO2) are accurately monitored to ensure the appliance is working as efficiently and as safely as possible.
Martyn Bridges, director of marketing and technical support at Worcester, Bosch Group, commented: “Regular calibration of any Electronic Combustion Gas Analyser is vital to ensure its accuracy and consequently, the safe installation and maintenance of a gas-fired appliance. While the new requirements may not come into force until 1st April 2014, we strongly urge installers to ensure they are not only CPA1 certified, but also have correctly-calibrated equipment well in advance of this date.
“As an industry, we need to take responsibility for the safe installation and maintenance of domestic heating systems. As part of this, installers now have a greater duty to ensure their Electronic Combustion Gas Analysers are calibrated correctly on an annual basis.”
