Housebuilder Redrow has been chosen by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) as their development partner for ‘Nethermayne’ in Basildon, Essex.
The HCA has confirmed Redrow Homes will be their development partner, subject to completion of legal contracts, for the residential development of land owned by the HCA and South Essex College (SEC) at Dry Street, Nethermayne.
Around 700 new homes will form part of a wider redevelopment, which will also include a new primary school, public open space, highways improvements and land for St Luke’s Hospice.
Outline planning consent for 725 homes was resolved for approval* in June and a detailed planning application is expected to be submitted by Redrow in late 2013 / early 2014, which the public will get a chance to view and make comment on. Some initial investigation and site survey works will be undertaken across the site from mid-August.
Keith Parrett, managing director at Redrow Homes (South East), said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as the development partner and look forward to working alongside the HCA, Basildon Borough Council and South Essex College to bring much needed new housing to the area.
“We believe that this location has great potential for a sustainable new neighbourhood, which would make a considerable contribution to meeting local housing needs and have a strong emphasis on quality family homes.
“In addition, we believe our proposed development would boost the local economy with the injection of money and circa 1,000 jobs during construction and will bring wider economic benefits to existing shops and facilities.”
Cllr Malcolm Buckley, Cabinet member for regeneration, said: “I am pleased that the HCA are progressing well with this important project and are working with Redrow to bring forward a full planning application. Redrow are a well reputed and quality housebuilder and the fact they have a Basildon base is a real bonus.”
The HCA is the Government’s key delivery partner in increasing the amount of public land for development, speeding up existing development, and re-starting stalled schemes.
Mike Goulding, senior area manager at the HCA said: “Redrow submitted a high quality proposal for the site and we look forward to working with them to deliver around 700 new homes for Basildon.”
Facts at a glance for the wider regeneration scheme:
Redrow builds extensively in the South East and circa 3,000 new homes per year across England and Wales. The company is noted for its Heritage Collection of traditional looking, high quality family homes.
