A site manager from leading North East housebuilder Yuill Homes has been named as one of the industry’s best when it comes to managing a building site, after being recognised in this year’s NHBC (National House Building Council) Pride in the Job Awards.
Steve Cook, 41, from Wolviston Village, was crowned as the Regional winner in the Medium Builder award category at NHBC’s Regional final for the North East, for his exceptional management skills overseeing construction work at Yuill Homes’ College Gardens development in Billingham.
Having worked with Yuill Homes for nine years after starting his career on a Youth Training Scheme in Building and Maintenance, Steve also won his first NHBC Seal of Excellence award and will now progress to the Pride in the Job Supreme Gala event, being held in London in January 2013.
Steve said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won such a prestigious award which recognises the best that the industry has to offer both on a regional and on a national level.
“To have won my first Seal of Excellence award is an achievement in itself, but to be named as a Regional winner for the first time is such a proud moment for me and also acknowledges the whole team’s efforts, who’ve delivered such a well crafted and high quality product at College Gardens.”
The awards which aim to find Britain’s best run building sites proved that Yuill Homes’ staff continue to be amongst the best in the business, after its project manager and previous two-time Regional winner, Neal Hutcheon, 46, from Sunderland, also won his third Seal of Excellence award for his work at Yuill Homes’ High View development in Blaydon.
Neal, who has worked for Yuill Homes for more than 20 years, said: “It’s a fantastic feeling to have been recognised again with my third Seal of Excellence award. It’s an award which recognises standards of excellence in the trade nationally so I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved.
“Credit also must go to the whole team at Yuill Homes who produce great quality work day in, day out on site and should also be proud of their achievements.”
David Mullins, managing director at Yuill Homes, said: “I’m extremely proud of Steve and Neal’s achievements, for once again being recognised for the excellent work that they and their teams have consistently delivered at their respective developments.
“For Steve to have been crowned Regional winner for the first time is such a great achievement and the pair’s success shows our high standard of craftsmanship and continued emphasis as a business for building a high quality product with excellent customer focus. We wish Steve the best of luck at the national awards ceremony.”
Neil Jefferson¸Customer and Business Development Director for NHBC, said: “Steve and Neal have performed excellently this year, and have been duly recognised as being not only among the best in the North East but also in the top few percent of their profession nationally. Yuill Homes’ site managers have a great pedigree in this competition, consistently producing homes of exceptional quality.”
