Planning granted for restoration and development of Grosvenor Gardens mansion block

Westminster City Council has granted full planning permission to Development managers Oakvest Ltd, for the transformation of the elegant mansion block Grosvenor Gardens House. Work will commence in Spring 2014.

The building was originally created as Britain’s first ever serviced apartments (based on the Continental idea of ‘Hôtel meublés’) in 1867, before becoming a hotel in 1920 and later converted to office use. It will now be reinstated to its original use as prime residential apartments – with 24 hour services and concierge provided by neighbouring 5 star hotel and Royal Warrant holder ‘The Goring’.

Mark Holyoake, Founder of Oakvest, commented: “Mark Holyoake, Founder of Oakvest, commented: “Grosvenor Gardens House is a timeless landmark in an exceptional location. We  have always seen the potential of this magnificent property and we are very excited to be involved in its sympathetic restoration -  our vision is to epitomise inspired luxury living and traditional English prestige. Residents here will enjoy 21st century luxury from a haven imbued with history and tradition.’

Located at the entrance to Belgravia, a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace while bordering the £2 billion renaissance of Victoria, its elegant Grade II listed architecture will soon begin a sympathetic restoration to its former glory. The building has a fascinating heritage, with links to both Hollywood and British Royalty – reputedly as the birthplace of the Queen Mother and Hollywood actor David Niven!

Grosvenor Gardens House will include 42 high specification residential apartments, a SPA & wellness centre, 15m swimming pool, private library, boardroom and business centre, underground parking and cinema. Completion is expected in Summer 2016.
