Football stadium's capacity secured for the future

A leading galvanizing company has provided its services to a new football stand in Berkshire to ensure it stands the test of time.

Wessex Galvanizers, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has provided its hot dip galvanizing treatment to over 50 tonnes of steel used by Stadium Solutions to fabricate and create a brand new stand at Maidenhead United FC, doubling the stadium’s capacity to 542 seats, and ensuring it is equipped with the facilities for future generations to use.

The galvanizing company worked with West Sussex-based Stadium Solutions, which specialises in the manufacturing of stadium facilities for clubs across the UK, as well as its parent company, PJ Steel Construction Ltd, to galvanize various steel elements for a diverse range of projects.

Phill Harris, Managing Director at PJ Steel, explained: “We call upon the team at Wessex on a regular basis for both Stadium Solutions, and its parent company PJ Steel, as we know that the standard of galvanizing will exceed our needs and those of our customers. The new stand at Maidenhead United FC had to be built to last, and because we guarantee our products to be maintenance-free for at least 15 years, galvanizing is always a necessity. It also needs to remain aesthetically-pleasing to fans and users of the grounds now and in the years to come.”

The two companies have worked together on a variety of structural steel projects and football stands, including Havant & Waterlooville FC, Sutton United, Gosport FC, and Renfrew Football Club.

“We work with Wessex Galvanizers on a diverse range of our projects, which can be anything for the individual builder and large architectural structures, through to stands for a variety of sports grounds. We pride ourselves on providing long lasting products which can stand the test of time, and will continue to do so in the future, meaning our working relationship with Wessex is very much ongoing.”

Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot-dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years. With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, the firm offers a truly national galvanizing service.
