Galvanizing firm helps defend stadium development

A leading galvanizing firm has teamed up on the construction of a brand new football stadium for a renowned breakaway football club.

Worksop Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has galvanized around 142 tonnes of steel on behalf of Rossendale-based James Killelea & Co Ltd as part of the development of the new FC United of Manchester football ground in Broadhurst Park, Moston.

The plant galvanized the steelwork which was used to produce three stands for the football club, including the main stand with restaurant and bar facilities and two smaller stands for standing spectators. The new stadium is the culmination of years of planning and commitment from its fans.

Paul Robinson, Commercial Manager of Worksop Galvanizing, said: “It was fantastic to be involved in the construction of the new stadium. The £5.8 million project marks a momentous occasion for the supporter-owned club, which has grown rapidly since its launch in 2005.”

Bob Allan, Contracts Director at James Killelea & Co Ltd, explained: “We were really pleased to be involved in the project and work once again with Worksop Galvanizing. We participated in the construction of all three stands at the ground, and the galvanizing finish will reduce further maintenance particularly as the stands would be exposed to the elements for years to come.”

Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot-dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years. With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, the firm offers a truly national galvanizing service.
