In a busy sports environment where hygiene, durability and high performance is paramount, a series of market-leading solutions from global building products manufacturer, Sika, have played their part in the creation of hard wearing and resilient floors for a new £1 million Sports Pavilion in Cambridge.
Replacing an outdated 1930's building, the new pavilion at Hills Road Sixth Form College has been designed to provide modern changing facilities for rugby, football and cricket teams, together with officials' accommodation and a groundskeeper storage area. With the main contractor ISG looking for a durable, easy to clean and non-slip floor which offered impressive aesthetic qualities, Sika's versatile range of flooring met the project's requirements exactly.
Developed to offer an outstanding surface finish and exceptional protection against loading, abrasion and chemical exposure - the Sikafloor® system proved ideal for the heavy footfall of the new sports pavilion. The specification comprised of a primer of Sikafloor®-161 followed by a Sikafloor®-263 SL in grey broadcast with anti-slip quartz aggregate. This was then topped with a layer of Sikafloor®-264 to create the resin finish. A two part, coloured, epoxy resin, Sikafloor®-264 provides impressive protection against mechanical stress, abrasion, chemicals and water.
Extremely tough and durable and with a life expectancy to match, Sika's flooring systems are designed to fulfil an almost endless combination of functional and aesthetic requirements and meet all industry requirements for mechanical and chemical resistance, impermeability and fire resistance.
As an alternative to traditional finishes, Sika flooring systems can serve any number of specifier demands on a wide range of projects. Joint free and easy to maintain, they are an ideal choice to meet the high aesthetic requirements of commercial and public buildings and can be used in schools, offices, retail, leisure as well as meeting the strict hygiene standards of the healthcare industry. They are also an ideal choice to meet the demands of manufacturing facilities, airports and shopping malls where a durable floor is a must.
With the pavilion now complete, Sika's proven range of floor solutions met all the customer's requirements and ensured generations of athletes at the college will stand to benefit from the facilities for years to come.
