API has published a new Code of Practice: Provision of Impact Attenuating Surfaces document.
The Code of Practice has been produced to provide prospective clients and specifiers with guidance on the types of surfacing options available.
The document includes useful information on basic construction requirements, specification and maintenance currently employed in constructing impact absorbing surfaces in playgrounds.
Aiming to promote best practice in the installation and maintenance of playground surfacing the Code of Practice will provide a handy reference to the relevant guidelines set-out in the British and European Standards (BSEN 1176 and 1177).
The document is written in easy to understand English with a jargon-busting glossary of technical terms, for the use of: play professionals (installers, designers and manufacturers); schools; parish councils and resident’s associations; and local authorities and parks staff.
John Croasdale, API Chairman, said: “This new code of practice will be a great help to anyone looking to maintain or create new playgrounds as for the first time it gathers together years of playground surfacing knowledge and experience in one place – making it a great reference tool for anyone interested in playgrounds.”
