Pupils and staff moving in to their new school building were treated to the highest quality floor coverings during this largescale fit out, while a main contractor also achieved a significant cost saving on previously specified products.
Carpet Services, of Cardiff, was selected to undertake the specification and installation of flooring in the newly-built St Teilo’s School’s in Cardiff, which was due to open its doors in September 2013. It was important that flooring products which could be matched to the school’s unique branding were selected, while a focus also had to be placed on using a covering that was easy to maintain, due to anticipated high footfall.
Anthony Mynett, director of Carpet Services, worked together with CFS and contractor Wilmott Dixon to source floor coverings in a distinct red and grey for communal areas including the school library and staff room. CFS Concept carpet tiles in 4500sms were selected and installed in these areas, while the school’s classrooms were fitted out in CFS Spectrum 3500sms.
Aiming to deliver cost efficiencies for the school, Wilmott Dixon had placed a priority on finding an installer which could reduce the initial high-budget price point placed on the products and fit out at design stage. Carpet Services, with its established relationship with CFS, was able to negotiate on the price of the floor coverings and associated accessories – sourced from Carpet & Flooring, a national distributor of CFS – to bring about a significant cost saving, without hindering or impacting the quality of the finished installation.
It was this partnership approach which ensured the project was completed on time and to budget, while the products used in the fit out will ensure the school won’t have to worry about installing new coverings each year; they are designed and manufactured to withstand a high footfall, for long periods of time. Additionally, should the school encounter a spillage or tear in its flooring, sections can be replaced in isolation, meaning it never need spend significant amounts on refitting a whole area or room.
