Products from the Total Glass extensive aluminium façade, window and door portfolio were used in the construction of two new £5 million special needs schools in Liverpool.
Constructed by main contractor Willmott Dixon, Redbridge High Community Special School is co-located with Bank View High Special School on the site of former allotments in Long Lane. The two buildings allow the support of 270 special needs pupils in the city.
Total Glass supplied and installed aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors during the six-month phased project, which features Sapa Dualframe 75mm Si windows and Sapa ST thermally-broken commercial entrance doors in a matching finish.
Providing additional security within the buildings are 28 automatic opening entrance doors, along with six sliding doors. All windows incorporate Sunguard SN70/37 solar-controlled glass to allow for maximum light transmission, while reducing solar gain and preventing excessive heat build-up. The frames are polyester powder-coated in RAL 7001M and RAL 7011M finishes.
Stuart Holt, Total Glass Commercial Aluminium Manager said: “From the outset, our team was heavily involved with the window design, which included bespoke aluminium cladding in deep recesses around the frames. Roller shutters were also installed on the externally-facing windows for extra security when the schools are closed.”
