Following the success of this year’s opening event in Manchester, VELUX, known worldwide for making the most of daylight and fresh air through the roof, has announced that it will be taking its Design a Brighter Future Breakfast Event to Cardiff and London this July.
The events, which are aimed at construction professionals, will take place on the
The format of both events will be:
During the events attendees will hear from a number of high profile speakers about how daylight and ventilation can transform the lives of millions of people across the world.
Having made a great impact on attendees at the Manchester event, Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham, School of Architecture & the Built Environment, David Strong will present as Keynote Speaker in both Cardiff and London.
With a vast portfolio of academic research and a post as Visiting Professor at the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development, Professor Strong is a specialist in whole system thinking, building physics and integrative design. His presentation looks at the importance of daylight in the design of healthcare, commercial, education buildings. It covers daylight’s varying impacts in these sectors, the legislative conditions for applying daylight standards and the future of ensuring adequate daylight conditions in buildings with climate-based daylight modelling and other initiatives.
Chris Wilkins, Associate Director at Pentan Architects and Emily King, Preconstruction Manager at Portakabin will also be speaking at the event in Cardiff.
Dr. Richard Hobday, Independent researcher and author on the impacts of sunlight and daylight on human health, will join Professor Strong in London.
Increased levels of daylight and ventilation having been shown to increase productivity in the workplace by up to 10%, promote better learning in the classroom by as much as 8%*, and aid recovery and significantly decrease the average length of stay of healthcare patients. As such, VELUX is aiming to reiterate the importance of natural daylight and ventilation and have therefore carefully selected the speakers for their in-depth knowledge of the subject.
Scott Leeder, Commercial Director at VELUX Modular Skylights, said: “Our first Design a Brighter Future breakfast event in Manchester was a great success, with more than 40 people in attendance. The feedback we received was extremely positive, with many audience members stating that they are now more likely to incorporate daylight and natural ventilation into their designs. As a result, we are taking the Breakfast Events on the road in a bid to reach more people within the construction industry and share with them the benefits of natural light and ventilation in buildings.”
Scott adds: “We know that these events are of great value to everyone that attends and with a fantastic line up of speakers we expect that tickets for both London and Cardiff to be in high demand. We would therefore advise anyone wishing to attend to book sooner rather than later, as places are limited.”
The Cardiff and London breakfast events are a series that VELUX will be hosting across the UK in 2018 to showcase how the three principles of energy efficiency, environmental impact and human comfort are being used to set a new standard for optimising human environments within the healthcare, education and commercial sectors.
VELUX’s goal is to unite architects, contractors, manufacturers, subcontractors, clients, end-users and policy makers behind the benefits of daylight and natural ventilation - and all are welcome at the breakfast events.
