We all know that drinking plenty of water is important, but when considering children this need is even more pronounced.
Youngsters need to drink ample water in the classroom to ensure they can maintain concentration – vital when you consider the importance of examinations and assessments – and to ensure they avoid suffering headaches and other symptoms that may affect their performance.
This becomes particularly pronounced when you consider that children are naturally more vulnerable to dehydration than adults.
Even mild dehydration can result in some of the symptoms more commonly associated with adults who have become ill. According to research, a baby’s body contains 75 per cent water, which reduces to 55 to 60 per cent by adulthood – making it all the more important that children are constantly refilling their glass.
The Natural Hydration Council recommends around four to six glasses of water should be consumed every day, but this can be a chore to achieve unless a readily available, tasty supply is accessible within the school.
One of the easiest ways to ensure children drink plenty of water is to ensure that it becomes their favourite drink. But with tap water often not offering the best taste, a better solution is often required to dispel the attraction of sugary alternatives.
Often the best method is to specify a plumbed in drinking water unit. These units offer a number of advantages including being thermostatically controlled, and can be either floor stored or mounted on the wall. Importantly, within a school environment, they offer a high-level of hygiene and are easy and safe to use.
As they draw water directly from the mains supply, they are hassle free and remove the need for heavy bottles that you would find with other products, such as water chillers. They’re easy to install, too, which means they don’t cause disruption in the school when they are initially installed.
Heatrae Sadia offers the SuperChill chilled water unit, which is available in three different models for varying applications. It offers an optional filter accessory and, supplied with its own spout, can be installed in addition to existing taps. Because it is plumbed into the mains water supply, it offers a plentiful source of hydration and refreshment, with a chilled water capacity of up to 30 litres per hour.
A reliable, tasty supply of drinking water is vital for any school, and by ensuring they have quality units in place staff can ensure that children are able to perform to their best, while maintaining their health during valuable years in their development.
