O’Reilly Precast’s Architectural Wall Panel (AWP) system brings structure, insulation and the external façade together in a factory-manufactured precast solution.
Designed as an insulated sandwich wall system, the panels combine internal and external concrete leaves with insulation incorporated within the panel construction.
Where a brick finish is required, natural clay bricks are cast directly into the wet concrete during manufacture. Unlike mechanically fixed or bonded brick-slip systems, the brick facing forms an integral part of the precast panel.
This allows a finished brick façade to be manufactured offsite in controlled factory conditions before being delivered to site as part of the building envelope.
But the AWP system is about more than the panel itself.
The façade is designed around the key interfaces and components that shape the finished building. Wall-to-wall and wall-to-floor connections, foundations, window openings, sill details, parapets, vents and balcony connections are coordinated as part of the wider panel design before manufacture begins.
Window details, for example, are coordinated at head, jamb and sill level, with sill installation incorporated into the factory process where the design allows. Vents can also be cast directly into the AWP, while dedicated connection details allow balcony interfaces to be incorporated into the façade design.
By resolving these interfaces earlier, architects, engineers and contractors can move from façade design to manufacture with a greater level of coordination and certainty, while reducing the amount of detailing and follow-on work that needs to be addressed on site.
The O’Reilly Precast AWP system has also achieved Kiwa BDA Agrément certification. The independent third-party assessment underpins the system’s safety and fitness for purpose for use in the UK construction market.
