Kier has been appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) to deliver the redevelopment of Anglo European School in Ingatestone, Essex.
The appointment marks a major milestone for the school, following the granting of planning permission for a new school building that will provide modern, sustainable and significantly improved facilities for students, staff and the wider community.
The project will see Kier deliver the redevelopment of existing school buildings, including the construction of a new three-storey school building, canopy structure, new car park, amphitheatre, multi-use games area and soft and hard landscaping.
Kier’s integrated 360 approach is supporting the delivery of the project, with Kier Mechanical & Electrical (KME), its in-house mechanical and electrical team, responsible for MEP delivery. Kier Design is also contributing its expertise across structural, civil, ICT and carbon design.

The new building has been designed to reflect Anglo European School’s distinctive international ethos and specialisms, while supporting the school’s vision to provide a high-quality learning environment aligned with its net zero carbon in operation ambitions.
The secondary school serves approximately 1,500 pupils aged 11 to 18, drawing students from a wide catchment area thanks to its distinctive, internationally focused curriculum.
A pioneering institution, it was the first state school to adopt the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and the IBCP and is a Lead School nationally for Languages, working in partnership with the DfE and NCLE to deliver ground-breaking languages programmes such as the Mandarin Excellence Programme and the National German A Level Class, delivering 7 languages in this unique and globally recognised curriculum that promotes academic breadth and rigour, broadens perspectives and deepens cultural understanding. This approach helps students leave as informed, principled and ambitious global citizens.

The school has worked closely with the DfE and its project partners to develop long-term plans for the site, as part of the government’s Schools Rebuilding Programme.
The redevelopment will create an education and community resource for the local community and supporting the school’s students and staff with new facilities designed for the future.
