Senior leaders from across Yorkshire have gathered at a transformative housing scheme in North Halifax.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Councillor Kieth Ingle, joined senior representatives from Homes England and top 10 housebuilder, Keepmoat, to celebrate the development launch.
The brownfield site in Illingworth will be transformed into 192 homes, representing a £35 million investment from the housebuilder - including £1.1m in contributions to schools, public transport and environmental improvements.

The scheme was made viable by a £5.3 million grant from Homes England as part of its Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land (BIL) Grant and forms part of Calderdale Council’s North Halifax Transformation Programme that aims to utilise underused brownfield land to create new housing options for local people.
Of the new homes, 44 of the homes will be available through a leading social housing provider, offering properties via affordable rent and shared ownership schemes.
Guy Evans, Land and Partnerships Director at Keepmoat Yorkshire West, said: “It was fantastic to meet with senior leaders and mark an important milestone for this transformative development. We are pleased to be working with Calderdale Council and Homes England to breathe new life into this brownfield site.
“At Keepmoat we’re dedicated to working with our partners to deliver high-quality, sustainable homes, reflective of the needs of the local area. The development on Furness Avenue and Turner Avenue South will create thriving communities in the heart of Calderdale.”
As part of the delivery programme, Keepmoat, a brownfield regeneration specialist, will also deliver biodiversity enhancements and new public open space, including a programme of tree planting.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Cllr Keith Ingle, said: “This significant development supports our priority to ensure that local people can access safe, warm housing, and the inclusion of affordable options is in line with our pledge. I’m delighted to see work progressing on the site, with people now able to view the type of homes being built and express their interest.
“It’s particularly good to see this brownfield land being redeveloped, putting the site back into use and preserving our precious greenbelt. We’ll continue to support schemes which provide much-needed homes to support local families.”
Keepmoat is a leading partnership homebuilder with a track-record of delivering quality new homes across the UK at prices people can afford. To date, almost 70 percent of its current developments are on brownfield sites.
