Hammersmith & Fulham Council has appointed Higgins Partnerships as its building contractor to deliver the rebuild of Avonmore Primary School alongside 91 new homes in Hammersmith.
The scheme will provide new, state-of-the-art learning spaces for pupils and teachers including dedicated special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) support space and enhanced outdoor play facilities. The development will also include 91 new mixed-tenure homes of which half will be affordable with priority given to eligible local residents to help ensure families can remain in the area.
Designed by BPTW in collaboration with Walter & Cohen, (school architects), the development will provide 2,297sqm of flexible learning space and over 1,500 sqm of outdoor play areas across three levels, including rooftop provision for the school, and two residential buildings. The design reflects the scale and character of the surrounding streets and dense urban context.

“The development will also provide 91 new homes for local residents of which half will be affordable as we build more homes than ever in H&F to give local families the chance to put down roots here as we make the borough a stronger, safer and kinder place.”

Avonmore will be a net-zero development, targeting a 74% reduction in operational carbon, with the remainder offset. Sustainable features include green roofs across all buildings, new tree planting in the community and the installation of 100 solar panels. The school will also achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
The proposals have been shaped through extensive engagement with local stakeholders, including community groups, school leaders, pupils and parents throughout the planning process.
