WPS has started work on a flagship £1.1 billion, ten-year contract with Birmingham City Council to deliver end-to-end housing maintenance services supporting more than 30,000 homes.
Awarded both the northern and southern lots following a wholesale retender of Birmingham’s housing maintenance, WPS is now delivering a full range of services, supporting long-term investment in social homes across the city - the largest local authority in Europe.
These include day-to-day repairs, improvement works, void property management to prepare homes for new tenants and planned maintenance programmes such as kitchen and bathroom upgrades. Heating system installs, servicing and upgrades will be delivered by WPS’ heating and compliance specialists, Liberty, ensuring homes remain safe, warm and healthy for residents.
Cllr Baber Baz, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said: “The new modern service will ensure tenants are getting the quality of service our tenants rightly expect and deserve.
“We have used extensive tenant feedback to establish this new service. They have been clear with us that they want a service that is easier to use, more flexible, and provides clearer communication and updates on the repairs they report.
“Improving our council homes and the service we provide to our tenants is a top priority for us. It’s why we are investing more £200m a year in our council homes so that they meet the right standards now, and in the future. These new contracts will ensure we keep the pace of that investment so all our tenants and leaseholders are living in warm, safe and sustainable homes.”
In addition to service delivery, the partnership will generate significant social and local economic impact across Birmingham.
David Morgan, Executive Managing Director at WPS, said: "Today marks an exciting and significant milestone for WPS and our ongoing partnership with Birmingham City Council. We are committed to not only improving homes but supporting communities to thrive.
“We will be working with local organisations, supporting the city’s economy, and creating skills and employment opportunities, to deliver significant economic and social value over the course of the contract. This place-based approach will deliver measurable improvements to people’s quality of life through targeted community engagement and initiatives.”
WPS brings a strong track record of delivery in the Midlands, including previous work with Wolverhampton Homes and PA Housing, as well as recent projects such as the refurbishment of the Inkerman House in Aston – Birmingham City Council's largest high-rise social housing block.Featured News
