International property and construction consultancy Gleeds has been appointed as lead consultant responsible for the creation of the Regeneration Framework for the Trent Sports District, a major growth driver for Nottingham and the East Midlands.
The Framework will set out a clear long-term vision and delivery plan for sport-led regeneration across the area, playing a key role in the realisation of the Trent Arc plan led by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).
With one of the highest concentrations of sporting venues in Europe, the District will build on Nottingham’s existing sporting infrastructure, creating new jobs, supporting the development of local housing and business opportunities, improving public spaces, and encouraging year-round tourism.

With a strong focus on delivering inclusive growth across Nottingham and beyond, the Framework will include a roadmap for improving connectivity, including walking, cycling and public transport links between the District, Nottingham Station, the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods. It will also feature initiatives to support sport at every level, from elite competition to grass-roots participation, and create opportunities for local communities to benefit by boosting skills and employment.
As lead development, project, programme and cost management consultant Gleeds will head up a consortium comprising Leonard Design, Arup and Savills. Both Gleeds and Savills have been involved with early planning for the recently proposed stadium expansion of Nottingham Forest Football Club, which will act as the anchor for the new Framework. Meanwhile, Leonard Design and Arup have worked with the EMCCA and its predecessors for the last five years, delivering the Trent Masterplan and early visions for the Trent Sports District.
Matt Darby, Regional Managing Director of Gleeds in the Midlands, said: “Gleeds has deep roots in the East Midlands, and the Trent Sports District presents a unique opportunity to shape a bold vision for the future of the region. As lead consultant, our approach is built around the principle that the framework must establish the Trent Sports District as an active destination of national significance, while being practical enough to guide decisions on land, infrastructure, investment and delivery. We are delighted to have been appointed to drive this landmark project alongside our experienced consortium partners.”
Work on the Regeneration Framework is underway, with completion expected by summer 2027.
