A new riverside community is set to launch in Hertford this June, as Berkeley prepares to unveil Hertford Locks.
The development will bring 446 new homes, including one- and two-bedroom apartments and three- and four-bedroom townhouses, as well as more than £4 million of investment to the area.
Located in Hertford on the banks of the River Lea, the new development will offer a rare combination of riverside living and town centre convenience.
As part of the wider plans for Hertford Locks, Berkeley will contribute more than £4million towards local infrastructure and community facilities through Section 106 funding. This includes £1.8m towards sustainable and active travel infrastructure, £900k towards primary and secondary education and SEND provision, £500,000 for expanded healthcare facilities and £115k towards community centres.

Funding will also support local parks, green space, playing pitches, sports halls, swimming facilities, tennis courts and bowls facilities, as well as recycling and waste transfer infrastructure.
For commuters, Hertford Locks offers easy access to London, with services from Hertford East to London Liverpool Street taking as little as 48 minutes on the fastest direct trains. The development is also well positioned for travel across Hertfordshire and the wider region.
Hertford is home to a thriving town centre, with a strong mix of independent shops, delis, cafés and restaurants, alongside key local destinations including Hertford Castle, Hertford Museum and The Beam, the town’s cultural venue offering cinema, theatre, live performance and community events.
Residents will also be well placed to enjoy the town’s network of green spaces and riverside routes. Nearby Hartham Common is a long-established public open space in the centre of Hertford, featuring wildlife-rich river corridors, cattle-grazed meadows, paths and recreational facilities, while the River Lea provides scenic walking routes close to the development.
Stephen Kirwan, Managing Director, said, “Hertford Locks is an exciting opportunity to bring high-quality new homes to a distinctive riverside setting, close to everything that makes Hertford such a desirable place to live.
“Alongside delivering a new collection of homes, Berkeley will also contribute more than £4 million towards local infrastructure and community facilities, supporting sustainable travel, education, healthcare, green space and leisure provision.
“The development has been designed to combine the tranquillity of waterside living with the convenience of a well-connected town centre location, creating a new community that supports both residents and the wider area.”
