Morgan Sindall Construction’s London Business has been appointed by Ealing Council to deliver a £29.3 million redevelopment at Villiers High School in Southall, centred on a new three-storey Eco teaching block.

Procured by the Southern Construction framework (SCF) the project will replace an outdated 1960s building with a modern, three storey state of the art energy-efficient facility designed to expand capacity, improve teaching and learning environments, and support growing demand for school places.

The new block will deliver 22 classrooms, 11 science laboratories, six ICT/media suites, staff and welfare facilities, and a rooftop sky garden.

Once complete, the development will enable the school to respond directly to the education needs of the population in Southall, including tailoring its student capacity to meet future requirements.

The new building forms part of the school’s wider sustainability vision, integrating air source heat pumps, rooftop solar panels and rainwater conservation systems. Much of its energy demand will be met off grid, complemented by a rooftop sky garden and outdoor learning space, with plans for a surrounding Forest School and new entrance.

Internally, the teaching block will provide flexible, high-quality spaces designed around natural light, nature inspired colours, ventilation, and acoustic comfort creating an environment that supports both learning and wellbeing.

As a tier one contractor, Morgan Sindall will deliver a comprehensive social value programme, including an Employment and Skills Plan to create local jobs, develop skills and support career pathways.

Delivered in partnership with Ealing Council, West London College, Jobcentre Plus, Construction Youth Trust and Bounce Back, the programme will offer site tours, career talks, workshops and pre-employment training, alongside 10 new jobs, three apprenticeships, 16 work experience placements and one T-Level opportunity.

Richard Dobson, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction in London, said: “With all the development taking place in the Southall area thanks to the creation of the Elizabeth line, it’s vital that the local educational infrastructure can meet the demands of the growing community.

“This is why we’re delighted to have been appointed to support Villiers High School’s expansion, as not only is the new Eco Teaching block going to make a real difference to the area’s students, teachers and families, but we’ve developed a comprehensive social value plan that will really maximise the learning and employment opportunities generated by such a project.”

Councillor Josh Blacker, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for a fairer start, said: “This project is about ensuring our schools keep pace with a growing community. Expanding provision at Villiers High School will support future generations while delivering wider benefits through skills, training and local employment.”

Christopher Richards, Headteacher at Villiers High School, said: “We have reached a pivotal moment for our community. Behind the scenes, we have been working to ensure these facilities meet the needs of our growing school, and this development will play a key role in delivering that vision.”

Manjinder Bains, Director of Finance and Resources at Villiers High School, said: “This project is about long-term thinking. We are replacing an inefficient building with one that is fit for the future, environmentally, operationally, and educationally. It strengthens our estate while aligning with our wider sustainability ambitions across the site.”

Construction began in spring 2026, with completion scheduled for late 2027.
