Barnet Council’s Strategic Planning Committee recently voted to grant outline planning permission to a joint venture between Ballymore and Places for London for proposals to transform Edgware Town Centre following guidance from Savills.
The site comprises the Broadwalk Shopping Centre (including a large Sainsbury’s store) and associated surface level car park, Edgware Bus Station, Edgware Bus Garage, Redhill Medical Centre and Deans Brook Nature Reserve - a Site of Importance for nature conservation.
The outline masterplan has been developed by Howells and transforms the 10.3ha site into a vibrant, street-based commercial, cultural and residential heart for Edgware.
In the context of an ongoing and worsening housing crisis, the masterplan delivers in excess of 3,000 new homes, 35% of which will be affordable which delivers over 17% of the Council’s needs for its housing waiting list.
The masterplan represents a £1.7 billion investment into Edgware which will deliver:
- Approx 3,500 new homes, 35% of which are affordable
- 11.9 acres of green and open space including public access to the Deans Brook Nature Park for the first time in 100 years
- 460,000 sqft of new commercial uses including a potential cinema
- A new integrated public transport interchange
- New community uses including an integrated healthcare hub and library.
