F.H.Brundle customer, Bespoke Project Installations, recently completed this handrail project at Dorchester Station using Stargard Flex.
Not all projects have the luxury of being fully completed before a handrail survey can take place. In many cases, time constraints and phased handovers, can impact the final stages of construction. This was the case for a recent handrail project at Dorchester Station, where the finished floor level of the ramp had not yet been determined at the time of our survey. As a result, the precise angles required for the handrail installation could not be established.
To address this challenge efficiently, Stargard Flex (bendy steel handrailing) was chosen as the ideal solution. Unlike traditional handrail systems, Stargard Flex allows for flexibility in design and installation, ensuring that the project could move forward without delays. Since the handrails could be manufactured concurrently with the ramp construction, there was no need for last-minute adjustments or modifications, streamlining the entire process.
To accommodate the ramp’s final dimensions, where required all handrail components were carefully cut to size. Internal single-lock splice joints, designed to fit 33.7mm diameter tubing, were used to ensure secure and seamless connections between sections.
Additionally, during our initial site visit, the staircase had not yet been constructed. To adapt to this uncertainty, four adjustable handrail returns were installed at both the top and bottom of the stairwell, trimmed to precisely match the completed stair dimensions.
By utilising Stargard Flex, this project was able to maintain momentum despite evolving site conditions, delivering a durable, high-quality handrail solution without compromise.
