NHF urges government to deliver £13.2bn for the Warm Homes Plan in Spending Review

The National Housing Federation together with other organisations has signed an open letter urging the government to deliver in the Spending Review the 13.2bn promised in the 2024 manifesto.

This Government has correctly made modernising the UK housing stock a central part of its mission to lower household bills, increase energy security, and grasp the opportunities in the transition to net zero.

The £13.2bn promised in the 2024 manifesto is vital to help grow the businesses who help households lower their energy bills and increase the UK’s energy security.

The open letter states: This sector has been rocked by boom-bust government policymaking since it grew out of the last Labour administration. As a result, businesses need government to give them confidence to invest in the sector’s future, training skilled heating engineers and retrofit installers, or manufacturing clean heating technologies in UK plants.

“Limiting investment to the amount allocated in the Autumn budget at the June spending review will result in the loss of 3,000 skilled, future proof roles. Meanwhile, the £13.2bn allocation is an opportunity to add 12,000 new skilled roles to the retrofit workforce this Parliament.

“Businesses working on home upgrades are government’s ally to lower energy bills and make the UK more energy secure. To ensure we can continue to work effectively as partners, we need the government to uphold its manifesto commitment to invest £13.2bn in the Warm Homes Plan.”
