The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) is proud to confirm it has officially become a Trade Associate of the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) – reinforcing its commitment to raising standards in construction product information and marketing in light of the Government’s response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 report.
This pledge marks a significant step forward in supporting greater integrity, accountability, and transparency across the building services and construction supply chain.
The CCPI was developed to address the widespread failures in how construction product information is presented and marketed – failings starkly highlighted by the Grenfell Inquiry. In response to the Inquiry’s Phase 2 recommendations, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner recently emphasised the need for a fundamental shift in product information and marketing, culture, and competence across the industry.
“The Grenfell tragedy was a wake-up call for the entire built environment,” said Rachel Davidson, BESA’s Director of Specialist Knowledge. “The government’s response to the Inquiry made clear that a cultural transformation is needed – and that begins with trust. By aligning with the CCPI, BESA is helping drive that transformation by supporting clear, accurate, accessible, up-to-date and unambiguous product information, and encouraging our members to do the same.”
The CCPI itself is a direct response to the need for change: it aims to raise standards in product information management and marketing and move the industry to a place where product information is clear, accurate, up-to-date, accessible, and unambiguous – five key principles that, if followed, will help prevent the misinformation and misrepresentation of product information and marketing that contributed to the Grenfell fire tragedy.
“We’re delighted to welcome BESA as a CCPI Trade Associate,” said Amanda Long, CEO of the CCPI. “The Association’s influence and leadership in the building engineering sector will be invaluable as we continue to grow momentum behind the Code. BESA’s commitment sends a clear message to the industry: the time for raising standards and rebuilding trust is now.”
As the government introduces new regulatory and legislative measures to strengthen construction product safety – including licensing schemes, competency frameworks, and increased enforcement – the CCPI offers a practical, structured route for manufacturers and specifiers to meet and demonstrate compliance.
BESA urges its members and wider industry partners to support this critical initiative. By signing up to the CCPI, you’re not just pledging compliance – you’re becoming part of a wider movement to build safer, better, and healthier environments for us all.
