The UK’s top site managers have been recognised for their dedication to raising standards in house building after winning the most highly regarded competition in the industry.

The Pride in the Job Awards 2024, organised by the National House Building Council (NHBC), celebrate site managers’ commitment to building homes of outstanding quality.

Announced at London Hilton on Park Lane, this year’s Pride in the Job 2024 Supreme Award winners are:

  • Small builder category winner – Sam Sayers of S & DS Construction Limited for his work at Mount Bernard Rise in Castlederg, Co. Tyrone
  • Medium builder category winner – Stephen Walker of C G Fry & Son Ltd for his work at Poundbury Northern Quadrant in Dorchester, Dorset
  • Large builder category winner – David McClure of Taylor Wimpey West Scotland for his work at Castle Gate in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire
  • High-rise category winner – Lyam Gunner of St James and St William Group for his work at White City Living (Phase 3) in White City, London
  • Multi-storey category winner – Stephen Harnett of Willmott Dixon Construction for his work at Homewood Grove in Chertsey, Surrey

Now in its 44th year and widely considered the ‘Oscars’ of the house-building industry, Pride in the Job has become the benchmark for exceptional site managers. Judging for the coveted awards is rigorous, with assessment across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.

With more than 8,000 entrants from all four corners of the UK, the competition is split into five categories: small, medium and large builders, plus multi-storey for projects up to seven storeys and high-rise for projects more than seven storeys.

Steve Wood, CEO at NHBC said: “Congratulations to all the 2024 Pride in the Job Award Supreme winners and runners-up. They are an inspiration and should be very proud of the quality of new homes they are producing.

“While house building is a team effort, we believe the greatest influence on the quality of a finished home is the calibre of the site manager and the way they inspire their team. Winning site managers demonstrate dedication, passion and leadership to ensure new homes are delivered to exacting construction quality standards.”

This year’s Supreme Award runners-up are:

  • Small builder category runner-up – Tony Warman of Forest Homes (Kent) Ltd for his work at Jemmett Meadow in Mersham, Kent
  • Medium builder category runner-up – Alan Wharton of Places for People Developments LTD for his work at Black Isle View in Inverness
  • Large builder category runner-up – Adam Hawkes of Bellway Homes Essex for his work at Sapphire Fields in Great Dunmow, Essex
  • Multi-storey category runner-up – Matt Wilkes of Keon Homes Limited for his work at Queenswood in Newport, Monmouthshire
