Fassa Bortolo, a globally recognised name in high-performance render systems has successfully contributed to the expansion of Oasis Academy New Oak, a primary school in Bristol. This ambitious project was completed in collaboration with E G Carter & Co Ltd and Woodman Brothers, and it marks a significant milestone in the school’s development.
The extension included the addition of more classrooms and specialised learning spaces, enabling the school to double the capacity of its Autistic Resource Base (ARB). This enhancement will accommodate more students and provide an enriched learning environment tailored to diverse needs.
Fassa Bortolo’s Specification Manager Stephen Gore, worked closely with the project team, offering critical on-site technical support and expert guidance on achieving optimal U-values for the structure. This collaborative approach ensured the final construction met all design and performance criteria.
The team chose Fassa Bortolo’s Fassatherm Frame Plus System, renowned for its superior performance in bonded insulation applications on steel-frame structures. Each component of the system was meticulously selected to meet the development’s specific requirements.
The system began with an application of A96, providing a stable foundation for the Mineral Wool insulation. Reinforcement Fassanet 160 was used to prevent any hairline cracking and offer additional support. To ensure proper adhesion and surface preparation, FX 526 primer was applied, followed by RX 561 topcoat. This final layer provides excellent water repellency, and broad-spectrum protection against algae and mould growth, ensuring long-lasting durability.
In addition, fire protection was a crucial consideration in the project’s design and execution. The non-combustible mineral wool insulation significantly enhances the fire resistance of the structure. Additionally, the Kiwa BDA certification on Fassatherm Frame Plus, provides assurance to stakeholders about the systems reliability and effectiveness in meeting technical and safety requirements.
This project exemplifies the importance of tailoring construction solutions to the unique needs of educational institutions. For Fassa UK, contributing to a project with such profound social impact, enhancing the learning environment for children, particularly those requiring specialised resources was an honour. The completion of this project highlights Fassa Bortolo’s commitment to delivering technical excellence and creating spaces that benefit communities for generations to come.
