Claire Hazelgrove, Member of Parliament for the Filton and Bradley Stoke constituency, visited Brabazon on 7 November to see firsthand the installation of innovative Ecodan heat pumps by Mitsubishi Electric.

The visit highlighted YTL Developments commitment to building sustainable, energy-efficient new homes in partnership with Mitsubishi Electric. Reducing emissions from properties is a key pillar to reaching the government’s target of net-zero by 2050.

During the visit, Claire Hazelgrove was given a tour of the latest developments at Brabazon, the new neighbourhood for Bristol being built on the historic former Filton Airfield.

YTL Developments is installing Ecodan heat pumps, a low-carbon heating solution, at The Heritage District: the latest collection of new two, three and four-bedroom homes at Brabazon. The Ecodan heat pumps are advanced systems that provide an energy-efficient alternative to traditional heating methods. By switching to heat pumps, homeowners can reduce both carbon emissions and their household energy costs.

Sustainability is at the heart of the vision for Brabazon. Alongside the Ecodan heat pumps, every new home at The Heritage District is rated ‘A’ on their predicted Energy Performance Certificates thanks to solar panels, excellent insulation and a network of garden streets and squares that are designed to boost biodiversity.

Speaking after the visit, Claire Hazelgrove MP said: “The housing crisis has long seen too few homes available for local people to rent or buy, seeing some people pushed out of the area or not able to put down roots. This isn’t right. Our new Labour government is tackling this by getting Britain building again, and that means more high-quality homes, with the vital infrastructure and genuine green spaces that communities need to thrive.

“The new community and homes at Brabazon have a strong focus on energy efficiency, by using the latest in modern technology. Mitsubishi Electric’s Ecodan heat pumps are providing a renewable heating solution and I’m proud that the standard is being set here in our part of the world.”

Russell Dean, Deputy Divisional Manager at Mitsubishi Electric, added: “We are thrilled to partner with YTL Developments at Brabazon. The Ecodan heat pumps being installed will provide residents with a reliable and sustainable heating solution that supports the UK’s drive towards carbon neutrality.”

Jon McDiarmid, Director at YTL Developments, said: “Sustainability is at the heart of our vision for Brabazon. From promoting active lifestyles to adopting sustainable technologies, our new homes are designed to complement rather than conflict with nature. With Ecodan heat pumps, solar panels, energy-efficient appliances and electric car charging all included as standard, we aim to do our bit for the planet, as well as helping to lower bills for residents.”

Named after a revolutionary airplane, Brabazon is bringing together all the energy and edge of Bristol to create the most exciting new city district in the South-West. Here you’ll be able to wander around independent stores, discover new restaurants or relax in leafy parks and open public squares. There will be thousands of new homes and creative workspaces, alongside iconic events, the latest amazing exhibitions and the best in live music at YTL Arena Bristol. Designed to be more sustainable, more connected and offer more opportunities, Brabazon is not only a place to live, but a place to enjoy the best that life has to offer.

Claire Hazelgrove MP’s visit underscores the importance of collaboration between the government, private companies like YTL Developments, and technology leaders like Mitsubishi Electric to drive forward the transition to greener, more sustainable living.
