Operational performance and sustainability were the key criteria for Aldi’s new national distribution centre in selecting our lowest embodied carbon floor panel.

Aldi's new 1.3 million sq ft distribution centre in Bardon, Leicestershire is one of the first major UK projects to use the Kingspan RMG600+ access floor panel. The building is Aldi’s largest distribution project to date, marking a step change in their approach to construction and acting as the next rung on their commitment to net zero by 2035. It represents Aldi’s lowest embodied and operational carbon per m2 distribution centre to date.

The scale of the building and the nature of the operation meant that carbon-intensive materials, such as steel and concrete, had to be used. But where possible low embodied carbon materials, including the Kingspan RMG600+ raised access floor, were specified.

Manufactured in the UK and crafted from low-carbon steel, the Kingspan RMG600+ floor panel is Kingspan’s lowest embodied carbon floor panel and contains a minimum 86% recycled content.

It is fully tested to the PSA: 2021 standard and comes with a Kingspan plc backed full system 25 year warranty, offering a level of confidence and high performance that a building like this requires.

“We are proud to have worked in collaboration with Kingspan as part of this landmark project. Not only is Kingspan’s RMG600+ reducing the environmental impact of construction but it is easy and efficient to install on site.”

John Hope, Project Manager, Accsys Projects Ltd.

“We at STOAS Architects are determined to reduce embodied carbon in construction and are delighted to see this product in the market.”
