The Building Safety Competence Foundation (BSCF) has achieved UKAS accreditation for its scheme which validates the competence of building control professionals.
The BSCF is the first organisation involved in the building control profession, to receive this approval under the internationally recognised standard ISO/IEC 17024 (conformity assessment for bodies operating the certification of persons).
The BSCF is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company set up by LABC, focussed on assessing and developing the education, competence, ethics and culture of the construction industry in the interest of public benefit, public safety and consumer protection.
Commenting on the news, Lorna Stimpson, Chief Executive of LABC, said: “While UKAS completed its assessment of BSCF earlier this year, this milestone represents the final step in having our approach to driving competence formally recognised."
“The BSCF route is one of three schemes approved by the Building Safety Regulator to assess the competence of building control professionals, and the only one to choose the UKAS accreditation process to provide independent verification, demonstrating a positive endorsement of the approach that we have developed.
“UKAS is the national accreditation body for the United Kingdom; assessment against national and internationally agreed standards provides building control surveyors, building users and the wider construction industry with continued confidence in the competence of the sector.”
